Bibliophilia
2019 was a great year for readers. These are some of the books I was able to finish this year and recommend to just about anyone.
What did you get through and what are you excited about reading in 2020.
Uninhabitable Earth- Wallace-wells
Perspective and we’re screwed.
Braiding Sweetgrass - Kimmerer
The importance of reciprocity and perhaps actual meaningful advice for approaching the environmental crisis.
Boom Town - Anderson
Interesting story about a boring place.
The Mastermind - Ratliff
Too much hype? But the amount of reporting the author did to get the story was actually pretty amazing.
Down the Great Unknown - Dolnick
Good retelling of exploration of the Grand Canyon. Fast easy reading
Children of Time - Tchaikovsky
Worth making it the end.
Midnight in Chernobyl - Higginbotham
One of my favorite non-fiction books I read this year. Every page I learned about human behavior, USSR or nuclear physics.
All the Wild That Remains - Gessner
Good background on 20th century nature writing. The more I read about the Edward Abby the less I’m into him. ( Bold take to have in the west, I know.)
The Lost City of Z - Grann
Some people go to extreme lengths for crazy reasons.
Gray Day - Oneill
We are all being spied on by Russians.
Sapiens - Harari
Mind blowing. Earth Shifting. Favorite book this year.
Hyperobjects - Morton
Still trying to scoop my thoughts up off the floor and wrap around this one.
Rising - Rush
We’re screwed.
Gods Without Men - Kunzru
Dreamy. Kunzru paints scenes.
Men Who Stare at Goats - Ronson
Fun story. We are still living in a world warped by the Bush wars.
Pirata - Hasburgh
Hits every cheesy Surf Noir trope but that’s why I read it.
